PC-22 Blue Stone COMBINATIONS

PC-22 Blue Stone delivers a calm, weathered blue surface inspired by natural stone and aged ceramic finishes. This glaze is formulated for cone 5–6 firing and is widely appreciated for its understated complexity rather than high gloss or uniform color.

In thinner applications, Blue Stone can appear more muted and semi-transparent, allowing clay body undertones to subtly influence the final result. When applied more heavily, it develops richer blue-gray tones with increased pooling in recesses, creating depth and visual contrast across textured surfaces.

One of the defining characteristics of Blue Stone is its soft breaking behavior. On edges, ridges, and carved details, the glaze naturally thins, revealing lighter highlights that mimic the look of worn stone or mineral deposits. This makes it especially effective for carved pottery, sculptural work, and functional ware where surface detail is important.

Blue Stone also responds well to layering within the Potter’s Choice system, though test tiles are strongly recommended to understand interactions with other glaze chemistries. Its controlled movement allows it to enhance form without overpowering it, making it a favorite for artists seeking subtle sophistication rather than bold color shifts.

This glaze works particularly well on stoneware bodies with tooth or texture, where its pooling and breaking effects can fully develop. It is suitable for mugs, bowls, serving ware, and decorative ceramics where a natural, subdued aesthetic is desired.
