PC-28 Frosted Turquoise COMBINATIONS

Frosted Turquoise offers a softer, more subdued interpretation of turquoise glazing, designed for artists who want aquatic color without high intensity or gloss dominance. Firing at cone 5–6, this Potter’s Choice glaze emphasizes gentle variation and surface nuance rather than bold saturation.

In thinner applications, Frosted Turquoise can appear light and semi-translucent, allowing the clay body or surface texture to subtly influence the final color. In thicker areas, the glaze develops a deeper turquoise tone, though still softened by its frosted visual quality.

One of its key characteristics is its controlled breaking over texture. On edges and raised surfaces, the glaze naturally lightens, producing soft highlights that contrast with slightly deeper pooled areas. This creates a gentle, weathered effect rather than sharp contrast.

In recessed areas, the glaze pools moderately, deepening color while maintaining a soft, diffused appearance. This balance makes Frosted Turquoise especially well-suited for functional ware where a calm, consistent aesthetic is desired.

It performs well on stoneware bodies with light texture, and is often chosen for mugs, bowls, and decorative vessels where subtlety is more important than dramatic variation. While still responsive, it is less aggressive in movement than some other Potter’s Choice glazes, making results more predictable.

As always, test tiles are recommended when layering or altering application thickness to ensure consistent results across different forms and kiln conditions.

Frosted Turquoise is an opague grayish-blue glaze.  It appears to crackler over deep blue, but has a smooth, satiny surface.  This is a great glaze for detailed surfaces and simple forms.

PC-28 comes with a safety warning.  Due to variations in firing temperature and possible contamination, tableware producers must test all finished ware to establish dinnerware status.
