Description
AMACO Potter’s Choice Glaze PC-31 OATMEAL | Cone 5-6
PC-31 Oatmeal COMBINATIONS
PC-31 Oatmeal is a warm, neutral glaze designed to provide a soft, approachable surface that complements both form and texture without overpowering it. Firing at cone 5–6, it produces creamy beige tones with gentle variation that can shift slightly depending on application thickness and clay body.
In thinner layers, Oatmeal tends to appear lighter and more translucent, allowing subtle clay body influence to show through. Heavier applications develop richer cream and light tan tones with slightly more opacity and visual weight.
Unlike highly reactive glazes, Oatmeal offers a more controlled surface response while still maintaining soft variation. On textured surfaces, it gently breaks over edges, creating subtle highlights rather than strong contrast. This makes it especially suitable for artists who prefer understated finishes.
In recessed areas, the glaze pools lightly, adding depth without creating harsh color shifts. The result is a cohesive, warm surface that feels natural and balanced.
Oatmeal is particularly well-suited for functional ware such as mugs, bowls, and tableware where a neutral palette is desired. It pairs well with both decorated and minimalist ceramic styles and can serve as a grounding glaze within a larger palette.
Because it is more stable than highly fluid Potter’s Choice glazes, it is often chosen for consistent production work, though test tiles are still recommended when combining with other glazes or changing firing conditions.
