Description
Amaco Potter’s Choice Glaze PC-32 Albany Slip Brown | Cone 5-6
PC-32 Albany Slip Brown COMBINATIONS
PC-32 Albany Slip Brown is inspired by traditional Albany slip glazes, known for their warm, iron-rich brown surfaces and natural variation in high-temperature firing. Designed for cone 5–6, this Potter’s Choice glaze recreates that historic aesthetic with modern consistency and reliability.
When applied thinly, Albany Slip Brown reveals softer brown tones with subtle warmth and slight translucency. In thicker applications, it deepens into rich, glossy brown surfaces with hints of darker pooling and increased visual depth.
One of its defining characteristics is its ability to emphasize form. On textured or carved pieces, the glaze naturally breaks over edges, producing lighter brown highlights that contrast with darker recessed areas. This enhances dimensionality without introducing overly bright or artificial color shifts.
In pooled areas, the glaze develops deeper, more saturated brown tones that contribute to its classic stoneware appearance. These variations are organic and depend heavily on application thickness and clay body composition.
Albany Slip Brown is especially well-suited for functional stoneware, including mugs, bowls, and serving ware, where durability and timeless aesthetics are valued. It also serves well in production environments due to its relatively predictable behavior compared to more volatile reactive glazes.
As with all Potter’s Choice glazes, testing is recommended when layering or adjusting firing schedules to ensure consistent results.
